Hi. I am working with Netware 6. All of our printers are setup through NDPS. We are contemplating the addition of DHCP. Now, while each of our printers currently have an IP addressed assigned, do I need to do anything further once changing users over to DHCP? I have tried two users - neither of which can print when using DHCP. It only works when an IP address is specified. Any help would be great!

I don't see a connection between the two. I would lean towards checking your DHCP configuration and make sure you are giving out the right ip,subnet mask, etc.

Also, from the workstation, verify that details of where the address came from, your router and other settings.. IPCONFIG /ALL when you're on an XP/2000 system.

Just had another thought. Make sure your DHCP server is set to Ping addresses so it doesn't give out duplicates.

Thank you. I will double check all settings. Another thought... would it matter if the Novell Client is installed IP/IPX and not IP only??

what client?
most newer clients will use ip first
you can tell from monitor or console1 what type of connection they are making
i would try to get rid of the ipx

like marv - i cant really understand the dhcp / ndps connection

what static address are you giving? are you setting up the slp or scope etc statically

what addresses are you giving out by dhcp and what info

look at the slp and get it correct - it's very simple , effective and normally totally overlooked
assume the printers are static

With NDPS, you have two things... A)Server to Printer connection and b)Workstation to Server connection. Whether they use the same protocol is unimportant. Having IPX/IP or IP only at the client shouldn't really matter.

I would also recommend that your Static IP printer assignments are not inside the range you are giving out to your workstations.
