Hi,
I inherited a backup system which includes NDMP backups of my EMC NS600 NAS filer.
My environment consists of a Sun V440 (Solaris 64 bit), 12 TB of disk space for a disk storage unit, Spectralogic 20K tape library with four AIT4 tape drives and two AIT3 tape drives.
Two of the AIT4 tape drives are directly connected to my NAS filer to support NDMP backups.
Currently, my NDMP backups are configured with an 'unlimited' fragment size.
The problem is that when I need to restore something, it can take quite a while to read through the entire tape to find the data to restore.
WIth NDMP ver. 4, I understand that I can lower the fragment size, lets say to 2GB or whatever makes sense.
Does anyone have any experience with this, or possibly pros and cons of changing it?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Regards!
