Hi all,

I have a few servers on one of my segments that reveals a conflict when doing the nbtstat -n command. The conflict displays this >ADMINISTRATOR <03> UNIQUE Conflict
I have tried registering to WINS by doing the nbtstat -RR command but I still get the conflict. The issue this is causing me is that browsing is broke on this segment and I have a feeling it is because of this conflict. Any ideas on how I can fix this conflict?

Thanks in advance,
Zoey

Try disabling the messenger service on the computers.

Thanks for your repsonse but you are asking me to do that for a network of several hundred computers. I think all I need to do is reboot the serverthat is the master browser for this domain. I was just hoping someone out there experienced this type of conflict and knew of a fix other than rebooting.

Well you can try rebooting but I think the issue stems from the fact that you may have the Domain Admin account logging onto multiple servers at the same time. In this case the account is registering the Messenger service multiple times.

Rebooting the server that was the Master Browser for this subnet did the trick. It resolved the conflict and it resolved browsing for the domain. I'm not sure where you were going with your suggestions. Having the Domain Admin account logging onto Multiple servers at the same time would not break browsing for the domain and stopping the messenger service on all the computers has nothing to do with browsing either. Perhaps stopping the "Computer Browser" service on all the WindowsXP and Windows2000 computers in the domain may have helped (but again doing that for every computer would have been tedious)

I understand all this. I'm familiar with browsing on a network. I was just looking for a solution other than rebooting my server. I guess there are no articles on how to resolve a netbios conflict. Apparently the solution was to reboot the server so I will know what I need to do the next time. We did have to reboot our firewall and router the night before so i'm sure this had something to do with it. Sometimes after rebooting the router or firewall its probably a good thing to reboot the servers.

Thanks for the input.
