Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following problem??

I have windows 2000 server setup with active directory and 3 client machines running windows 98. i seem to be having problems routing the internet from my dialup modem located in the win2k server machine to give access to the client pc's

I had Internet conection sharing (ICS) enabled on my dialup connection but this conflicts with the DHCP and DNS services that avtive directory enables.

So i removed (ICS) from my dialup connection and tryed using NAT. I created a new "Internet Connection Server" from the NAT wizard to enable my clients a Dial up demand to the internet but i still had no joy after hours of playing around.

PLEASE can someone help me.....

ICS is a small NAT. Should work without problems. In a network if you have 2 DHCP servers of course that you will have problems.
Want to use ICS?
activate it, set the clients for using DHCP, and that's all.
But, disable DHCP server (you don't need if you already have ICS).
DNS, will not conflict if you are setting it properly. ICS will use the public interface settings for DNS from the server.
The best way is to configure your DNS server as a no-root server, and use to forward unresolved querries to the external DNS (ISP one) (server/properties/forwarders).

Want to use NAT?
Is just more flexible.
Open RRAS. "IPRouting"/General/"New Routing Protocol"/ NAT.
Then Go to "IPRouting"/Network Address Translation/New Interface, and choose an interface that will be the publlic one, then same procedure for a new interface that is the private one.
Private one, has nothing to set.
Public one, check "Translate TCP/UDP headers". I fyou have more IPs for your ISP, there is the place (the other tabs with options) where to make changes.
Then go to NAT/Properties/Address Assignment. Here, if you have another DHCP you can uncheck that option. If not, will be used a DHCP of NAT.
Then go to NAT/Properties/NameResolution. Check CLients to use DNS. NAT will be (ICS too) a proxy for DNS. Again DNS is the best way to use the internal one with forwarder the external DNS.
And, that's all. Gia Betiu
