I found out before leaving work yesterday that they now want me to setup NAT & dhcp on the router, and connect it to a 3550 switch. I've been researching NAT but am a little confused on some of the setup. Can anyone point me in the right direction on the basics and how do I need to configure the 3550 as well? Not looking for the easy way, as I definitely want to learn it, but I'm pressed for time to have this working by COB Friday. Thanks in advance.

More info is needed to understand what your trying to accomplish.

- Why NAT and what type of translations static,PAT? do you need to translate between conflicting IP designs?

NAT Configuration Examples

- Do you want to router to hand out IP address or do you have a DHCP Server and you need to configure "helper address"?

dhcp Configuration Examples

- Is the 3550 a layer 3 device (EMI image)? Do you need to configure routing protocols between the 3500 and your router?

Jsteve, thanks for the reply, but after much teeth gnashing & headache, I finally READ the Cisco manuals and got it working. The next piece will be to add the 3550. This is an unsecured network that we're setting up for visting doctors(we're a healthcare facility)vendors, techs, etc., that will be totally separate from our network. It's going to be wireless and hardwired to various location around our campus. Things became much clearer after I locked the door and placed my phone on DND and took the time to actually read and not skim over the manuals. I've got the router handing out the addresses, and I'm using PAT. I came across a 2950 switch that I think I'll use instead of the 3550.
