Hello,

When I used my laptop on the net I usually get download speeds of around 1k per second, wereas on my main computer they're usually 4.x to 5. It doesnt matter which program I'm using to download (IE, MIRC, Kazaa) the download speeds never seem to reach above 2.5k/sec

Any ideas??

Thanks

Hi,

What speed does the modem connect at? Also do you have anything running that connects out and therefore would use the bandwidth.
If there is nothing obvious I would run a good virus checker and spyware checker over the machine.

Thanks for the reply, in answer

The modem generally connects at 46.6k/s and a max of about 48k, not normally less. I dont have anything running (that I know of) as standard, but I have a firewall so I would know if something was using the internet which shouldnt be, besides the dial up icon in the taskbar doesnt light up unless Im downloading. Also I have an up-to-date McAfee Virus Scanner (18th Aug 2003), so I wouldnt think there are any viruses.

I've just run a spyware checker (ad-aware) and it didnt solve and problems.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

Daint

See if you can find a newer driver set for the modem.
For some reasons laptops tend to ship with the oldest drivers in the world.
