i'm a newbie in IIS and intranets.

i want to set up a web server in a win2k domain. actually i already have it running. the problems are:

1. i want to avoid typing in the name of the web server in the address bar. how can i set up my sites to adopt the *.com format?
2. i don't want to use the port 80. but if i change it, i still have to type the new port appended to the server name. basically for this and the first question, i want to know how i can set up an alias for the webserver and the website i want to publish.

thanks!

For the second one, if you want to use a port other than 80 you will need to put the port number in the URL bar.

DENNY,

i was trying to avoid that. i do not want the users to have to type in the port number as in all i want them to do is to surf the intranet as they do the internet.

is there a way for me to hide the change?

thanks!

BOB,

is there a specific link you can point me to to carry out this procedure? creating that record in the internal DNS?

thanks!

BOB,

i did it! thanks! the only thing i have not done yet is replacing the port number as i asked DENNY. i'll look into it later.

thanks again!

The port number an't be masked like that. Why are you using a different port number than 80 for your internal intranet?
