I'm setting up DFS management between two servers (Server A and Server B)running Windows 2003 R2. My goal is to setup a poor mans cluster. So if Server A fails and Server B is still operation, users will still be able to access their shares via the DFS Names Spaces. I'm new to setup DFS Managment. I was able to setup a namespace called 'IM' on Server A. Then I created my shares and was able to successful replicate them over to Server B. Here my problem. I have a DFS Share that called \\abc.com\im. Then under that namespace you can access my 'Data' share. So when I map my drives I map to this Virtual Share \\abc.com\im\data. Then I can see all my data files. I can all access it directly to server share \\server A\data or \\server B\data.
Now my problem, if I disconnect the network cable from Server A fromt he network. Then from Server B if I try to access the namespace share \\abc.com\im\data, I get an error say its not accesible. But If I got Server B data share I see it no problem.
How do I increase the availiablity? I went to Server A and right click the domain base names space and click 'add Namespace Server' I then choose Server B and click okay. Now I get an error that says it can't 'Validate Share Folder' check the DFS Service Status (Which is fine), Create the Shared Folder if it doesn't exist'.
Not sure what do here??
