Hi Guys,

I have a named.pid in the named.conf and in /var/named.
Just a stupid question, may I know what's the use of this named.pid files in DNS.

I'm inthe process of setting up a secondary DNS and wondering do I need to have the same named.pid inthe secondary DNS server ?

Appreciate, if somebody could help to answer my queries.

Cheers

pid = Processor IDentification

It's the Proccess ID number and it's written to a file so scripts and other programs cn get the PID easily to kill or restart it if need be. Basically, don't worry about pid files.

Hope that helps,
