Name Server Problem - DNS

I have a DNS server and I am hosting websites. I have registered the dns on the internet so when i go to

http://www.nsiregistry.com

and I look for my name server, I can find it and it shows me the IP address. the problem is when I run a nslookup and I do server ns1.nameserver.com i get the error that it cant find the address: non-existent domain. However, if i do nslookup and I look for the IP address instead of the name,I get the response and I can query it.
Does anyone konw how I could fix this problem?

Currently this website im hosting has a dns "idirect.com" everything works ok but I just want to have my own dns server. so when I run the query at

http://www.dnsreport.com

it seems all ok but all the information that it gives me is from idirect.com and not from my dns server ns1.pristineprinting.com

The first problem is idirect.com's nameservers are authoritive for your domain. You will need to change that at your domain registrar so that you dns servers ip address is listed as the authorative nameserver for your domain.

Then on your DNS server you will need to add ns entries that list ns1.pristineprinting.com as your NS.

You will need to clean your NS up a little when you add you ns to it.

to be listed, do i contact iderect ? or someone else?
Do i need to have pristineprinting.com using my dns server or can I have it using someone elses dns?

I guess I need to back up a step. Do you want to use your DNS server for internal use/External use or both?
