When I change a users name in AD (use rename and then add another SMTP address and set as primary) the change dosen't seem to take effect on the mail server for quite a while.

The new name is in the address book to have mails sent to it but when the user sends a mail it uses the old name.

Is there a way to make the Exchange server sync with the change straight away instead of the couple of days that it seems to take for me?

thanks,

Chris

did u use outlook 2003 cache mode? in that case, diable cache mode, force DC repl, it might help.

Also look at the sending clients "nicknames" - unless they intentionally select the person from the updated address book, Outlook (by default) will use what's in its nicknames file - which may no longer work (in most cases, doesn't).

A lot of the catch up time can be realted to the replication performance of you AD.

Do you have a large AD with many DCs at the other end of slow links?

Test e-mail was sent from user to themselves, lookup their name in address book (shows new name) and send. Comes in as from the old username.

Only have two DC's with the one mail server (fairly small domain) and all servers are in the same location.

Its the mailbox name in the Exchange - System Manager that dosen't change for a while.
