Speech Recognition Automated Attendant consist of two features:
• External Speech Recognition Automated Attendant - This feature gives outside
callers the ability of directing their own calls by speaking the name of the person
they want to reach.
• Internal Speech Recognition Automated Attendant - The feature allows an
internal Norstar Voice Mail user the ability of directing their own calls by using
the Company Directory and speaking the name of the person they want to reach.
After Speech Recognition is enabled, Norstar Voice Mail automatically enables two
Voice Channels for the feature.
Two additional Channels can be added for Speech Recognition by enabling the
Speech Recognition 2 to 4 Channel Upgrade Security Key Code.
Note: Speech Recognition can have a maximum of 4 Channels.
Prerequisites
In order for your Speech Recognition Automated Attendant software to be
functional, you must:
• add 16 MB of memory to the NAM
• install a Media Services Processor Expansion Card (PEC) in slot 4 of the Media
Service Base Interface Card (BIC) in the NAM for a two Channel Speech
Recognition Automated Attendant
• install another PEC in slot 3 of the BIC if the Speech Recognition Automated
Attendant is upgraded to four Voice Channels

and Maintenance Manual. The Norstar Applications Module Installation and
Maintenance Manual is included on the Norstar Voice Mail 4.0 Documentation and
