Hi there,
I've seen something quite similar with Netbackup version 3.2. It would put files in the root directory that had very little usable info in them, most of the time, only 1 line with INF in it. The file name was something like /.NoPr0gLoG, I think I came to the conclusion that it was somekind of temporary file used whenever there was a problem with the backup. I never called Veritas/Sun to find out, but mine wasn't called SeCuRiTy :), maybe you should. I seriously though, that it could be any sort of exploit... it's more like bad programming.
