Mysterious cell padding/spacing

Using DW MX, I have a table with 0 cell padding, 0 cell spacing, no border. Renders fine in NS 4.7, 7.02, IE 5.1 (all Mac) as long as there are no behaviors applied to any image. When an onMouseOver event is applied anywhere in the page, rendering for NS 4.7 shows extra space/padding between cells. Other browsers fine.

Also, any behaviors (I've only listed 4.0 and up in prefs), the scrollbars disappear for NS 4.7 if the table is in a layer. Any ideas? The page is 0 margin.

I've checked the NS prefs to make sure style sheets and javascript enabled. I also checked the Macromedia site, and changed all tables to fixed sizes instead of percentages.

Am I going to just have to give up on people with older browsers viewing my site?

Any help, please!!

Thanks,
Max

it is nothing but a cross-browser issue...that has been the as long as browsers have. In general: try to set the sizes (W and H) of cells and tables...in the code view- make sure that the dimensions are really there; also NN 4.x tends to read the DIV tags differently than IE.

Am I going to just have to give up on people with older browsers viewing my site?

this is something that u have to decide...but in general u have to look into your page elements-tags and compatibility with desired browsers. NN4.x "likes" table base design vs divs etc.....
here is a table based work in process (IE and NN) that u can look at:
good luck

Well, I checked the source and everthing matches up. I'm using the layers for "hiding" purposes with menus. I think I'll have to compare to my first version of site, but I believe that worked but there were no images that did not use a standard color background (as opposed to my FW slices, now).

Thanks. I'll keep trying.

hm...layers never did work that nicely on cross-browser...my 1st and last (lol) attempt to use them cross-browser: but never really got them to be Exact on IE and NN4.x
what can I say...clean up HTML as much as u can and get the happy middle :)
good luck

Well, the old site is still up so I'm checking code against the new one.

Why, oh why did i think this would be easier this time?

Silly, isn't it.
