Hi,

Asking on behalf of someone else... Due a near death of a laptop (happily running XP) a new laptop running Vista was purchased. Version 10 MYOB is not supported on Vista – only version 16. We had purchased the upgrade pack of version 16 not the full install.

This is fine except we cannot re-install version 10 first on the new laptop to then upgrade it to 16. We have tried compatibility mode etc to no avail.

(The upgrade was purchased as this was the only way to transfer the established business/chart of accounts between versions without having to completely rebuild it).

Any ideas how we may be able to achieve this? I was thinking that maybe we might have a VM on XP – or a dual boot – but then we have an issue of getting another version of XP to install.

The MYOB website provides absolutely no help whatsoever with this scenario…

Thanks in advance.

Was the version of XP on the dead Laptop an OEM version, if it was a Retail version the License may be transferable from the dead machine?

Never used your program, but it seems that you may have purchased the wrong program and may need to return it for the full version, or that you should have upgraded in XP? Is there any procedure for Importing files etc?

Thanks Linney - will check out the links. I checked your first link - (MYOB support page) before posting the first question and it seems unless you have a support agreement $$$$ there is not much on offer.

Part of the reason for buying the upgrade only version of MYOB accounting is that it allows the upgrade/migration of the files from the old verison. Apparently putting in a new install won't do it.

The XP version would be an OEM - came with a Toshiba laptop.

Troubleshooting the old version installation would be fine if it would install completely - or even begin to launch...

Will persevere..thanks again

Have a go at the Aussie Support Forum, clever lot those Aussies, and they're not affiliated with the MYOB Company, so you might get an unbiased answer, won't hurt to try anyway.
