myconnection starts but the rest dont work

I start internet explorer 5 and hit connect and every goes
fine windows connects (i can see two computers at the bottom) but when ie 5 tries to access a page it says
the "Page cannot be displayed" or "Cannot find server",
and when i check my e-mail Outlook Express says server timed out, i can see the little computer icons sending
but not recieving, i tried uninstalling and installing DUN
but to no avail.

Another thing, check to see if there's a HOSTS file (no extension) in your computer anywhere. If there is delete it then see if it loads pages. A HOSTS file would be there if you have any of those "web accellerator" software programs such as Netsonic. If you have one do yourself a favor and get rid of it.
