Hi, I have two user accounts, when starting up Windows does not load personal settings for any account. It just stays there and does not go any further. I have tried entering in safe mode as an administrator with no success.

I have my Windows XP CD with the recovery console available. Any suggestions?

Thx

Desktop settings won't save

Nothing has worked so far, I even reinstalled Windows XP under the same Windows directory and yet it does not work, system stays in teh same screen loading your personal sttings and does not go any further. My mouse works while on this loading screen. Please some more ideas.

Thx in advance

Tomahawk,

. use the utility discussed in my FAQ: faq779-4625

This is almost always a DHCP failure. If it is possible under your settings, set for yourself a static IP. What I have done at times is to let XP pull an APIA IP like 169.xx.xx.xx, write it down and then enter it as a static IP.

(And if anyone by chance should ever quote me on that solution, I will deny it to my grave. But it does work, and I have done this.)

Hi, I think I have not made myself clear yet, I do not have any access beyond the point where I get the Windows startup screen thne the computer gives me my choices for the two users I have and when I choose any of the two it just won't go any further.

Do you have any USB hardware?

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

Try running ChkDsk /r from the Recovery Console.

An easy to follow recovery console description when unable to start computer due to corrupt registry.
