My Printer will only print once

I have an Epson Stylus Color 440 printer.
I recently upgraded to Windows ME after carrying out a full re-install of my system.

Since re-installing my printer and drivers I find that it will only print out once.
If I want to print again I have to reboot my computer. I have to repeat this procedure every time I want to print anything. Does this have something to do with the paging? Are the files not being cleared out of RAM? How do I set the OS to clear pages or the RAW data or whwtever is clogging this sucker?

Any suggestions that may help would be appreciated.

Hmm, Epson printers install a custom parallel port VxD into the device stack. It could be crashing, taking down communications between the computer and the printer.

Easiest way is to reinstall, or deinstall / reinstall the drivers for the printer. Make sure you download the latest Epson drivers from their web site. You may have a driver conflict that wasn't there before the upgrade to ME. Your mileage may vary...

I can actually think of two items you may want to try:

1. Get into your BIOS and check the LPT port settings. Try changing to EPP or or setting other that what it is currently at.

2. Enter the printer properties dialog box and de-select bi-directional printing. Also check the spooling area. Experiment with RAW versus default printing.

Both items may have something to do with the printer trying to speak with the OS and not being able to send a recognizable end of print message, opening up the port for further jobs.

Ultimately...a new driver for that OS is in order...but try these...

You also want to go into the printer settings - and spool settings. Make sure you're printing RAW and not EMF.
