hello all running win xp pro sp2 (issue was still active in sp1) seems everytime i turn off a work station on reboot to win i have to re-add a few of "my networking places" locations, this has been gong on for a while now it is just finally starting to get on my nerves a little. i looked around at wins site for something but no luck. any ideas? thanks a bunch!

My networking places disappear

Have a look in Folder Options/ View at the first check box about automatically searching for network folders and printers.
Specifies that Windows periodically search the network for shared folders and printers. All shared folders and printers that are found appear in My Network Places.

This may be caused by the asyncronous loading of networking during the boot up process. This speeds up the login process in a stand-alone workstation by allowing the user to log in with cached logon credentials before the network is fully ready.
To disable this "feature" and restore your logons to their normal speed, open the MMC and add the group policy snap-in. Under Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->System-->Logon, change "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to ENABLED.
This can be fed to clients via a group policy from a Windows 2000 server by upgrading the standard policy template with the XP policy template. Since this is an XP only command, non-XP systems will ignore it in a domain distributed group policy. Even for stand-alone clients, this can resolve some Netbios resolution issues and certainly helps in many cases if you are using a wireless adapter.
