This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
My Computer and Windows Explorer unexpectedly quit when you try to open My Network Places or Shared Documents in Windows XP
If you have SP2, run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
