My Computer Icon is gone

For some reason the "My Computer" Icon is gone. How can I get this icon back on my system? Thanks

this is a bit of overkill, but if you download tweakUI from M$ you can bring it back as well as customize quite a bit more...

Right click on the Start menu and go to Properties. Switch from START MENU to CLASSIC START MENU. When you choos the Windows XP start menu you loose the My computer and My Network places icons. This is done for better web integration. Just select Classic Start Menu and your icons will reappear. James Collins

Here's something you can check too.
Right click on a blank area of the desktop and select properties in the resulting menu.
Select desktop in the resulting display properties window.
Select customize desktop in the resulting window.
See if you have my computer checked under desktop icons.


This specifies whether these Windows items will appear as icons on your desktop. Select the check box if you want the item to appear on your desktop; clear the check box if you do not want the item to appear on your desktop.

Here's an easier solution - on the Start menu, right click My Computer and select "Show on Desktop". If this doesn't work, then a Group Policy might be blocking it.

Although I personally appreciate having less clutter on my Windows XP desktop, many readers question where the My Computer, My Network Places, and My Documents icons have gone. By default, they are no longer on the desktop. If you would prefer to have them back there, simply right-click the desktop, and choose Properties. On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop. Check next to any of the icons that you would like to see on your desktop, then click OK. Just a tip i picked up and basically its the same as others have given you, good luck, Tom
