My burned Data DVD's only shows 8 characters for folder names?

I have laptop users sending me burned DVD's that read fine on one Dell PC and the next (exact sister PC) computer truncates the file and folder name to 8 characters. All PC's are brand new so nothing funky has been done with them. This is not isolated to the same users burning them either. It has happened from 4 different people now. All are using the Microsolutions "BackPack" external DVD burner.

Any suggestions to fix this?

Thanks everyone. I got it!
Microsoft has a patch out that fixed it. Not sure which one as I picked everything available. At least I am back in action.
