My problem is that my ISP has been giving me the run around on changing my MX record for ~ 2 weeks. I want to make sure I have everything in place before I bug them once again.

I currently have a static IP address set to their DSL router that I rent from them. It is set to port forward 25 and 110 from that router to my internal network. On the internal my router is set as 10.0.0.1, and my server is 10.0.0.100. My users are various IP in the 10.0.0.10-10.0.0.90 range. I currently have users with email hosted at the ISP. Those user names are duplicated on my server. If they change the MX record of my domain to my static IP am I all set to go??

thanks

Another question. Is there a way to check what your MX record is currently set as? Or would the ISP only have access to that?

Well I'm still learning to set up exchange myself so I cant answer your first part but the second post is easy.

You can learn the command line options of NSLOOKUP. Here's an example
at the command prompt type:

nslookup
set querytype=mx

Then all you have to do is enter your domain and instead of the IP address, you'll get the address of your MX record.

Or, if you hate using text commands you can always use sites like:
or for all your internet IP based questions. They are cool sites.

Ok this is what I get:

bay10ventures.com internet address = 165.166.123.150
bay10ventures.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mx.infoave.net
bay10ventures.com nameserver = dns4.infoave.net
bay10ventures.com nameserver = dns3.infoave.net
bay10ventures.com
primary name server = infoave.net
responsible mail addr = registrar.infoave.net
serial = 2001082901
refresh = 3600 (1 hour)
retry = 1800 (30 mins)
expire = 1209600 (14 days)
default TTL = 3600 (1 hour)
bay10ventures.com nameserver = dns4.infoave.net
bay10ventures.com nameserver = dns3.infoave.net
mx.infoave.net internet address = 165.166.0.25
dns4.infoave.net internet address = 206.74.254.2
dns3.infoave.net internet address = 204.116.57.2

I'm assuming that all they need to change here is where it says "MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mx.infoave.net"

They'll exchange "mx.infoave.net" to my static IP??

Is that correct?
Oh and thanks for that post

Yeah they should just change the MX references. The DNS stuff should remain the same.
