MX record in DNS

I have a web site 786matrimonial.com, and I am using SMTP on IIS 5.0.
I am very confused about the MX record. Someone told me that for MX record where it say "email server" i should enter 786matrimonial.com (for reverse look up).

But I was also told by someone that for MX record I need to enter PTR
which for me is
cpe000d6122673b-cm024370007731.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com

I am realy confused which one I need to enter.

It seems that you have done both anyway ...

786matrimonial.com. 3600 MX 0 cpe000d6122673b-cm024370007731.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com.
786matrimonial.com. 3600 MX 0 786matrimonial.com.
786matrimonial.com. 3600 A 24.156.2.221

You have two MX records with the same priority that resolve to the same address, so there's not really much point in doing that. However, there is currently a reverse record for 24.156.2.221 that points to cpe000d6122673b-cm024370007731.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com so this would be you best bet for an MX record, so the forward and reverse lookups match.

However, if you could get the reverse changed, something like mail.786matrimonial.com would be far neater. So, you'd have ..

786matrimonial IN MX 10 mail.786matrimonial.com

mail.786matrimonial.com IN A 24.156.2.221

and then have the reverse changed so that you'd have,

221.2.156.24.in-addr.arpa. PTR mail.786matrimonial.com

What I understand from your last email that if I have only one MX record with the value
cpe000d6122673b-cm024370007731.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com

That will be good enough and do the job for me, right?
