I didn't find any threads on this exact issue so I decided to start one.

I have an S8700 w/ an Octel 250. My LWC codes are *4 to turn on, and #4 to turn off. Both are set correctly in the Octel.

Is the lamp trigger coming from the Octel different than using the FAC's from another station? I can turn a lamp on and off using the FAC's, but I cannot turn a lamp off using the FAC if it was initially turned on by the Octel.

The method of turning on the lamps is the same. It's just happening from an Octel integrated device that looks like a phone to the PBX (the 7405 integration.)

Check this thread to learn what's keeping the message waitng lamp turned on.

So the message waiting lamp must be deactivated from the same station that activated it?

Yes. It's how the "Leave Word Calling" feature works.

If you use LWC to activate a MWI lamp on someone's phone, and then meet them in the hallway on the way to lunch, (and presumably discuss the subject of your need for them to call you) you can return to your desk and cancel the LWC message so they won't call you unnecessarily.

Another users station can't cancel the message that you sent from your phone. (If you think about it, you really wouldn't want anyone to have that ability, would you?)

Of course, the message receiver can delete the message themselves. They would have a 'msg-retrieval' button, a 'delete button', and a 'next' button, along with a display phone to see the messages and know which to delete.

Stations designated as "global message retrival" with a 'cov-msg-rtrv' button can get and delete anyone's messages. (So you don't have to buy display phones for EVERYONE.)

Of course, as the system admin, you can just issue a 'clear amw all <extn>' command and clear the message light. But if you want to prevent it from happening again, I'd find out the station that activated it in the first place, and change their station so their 'LWC activation' is set to 'n'.

I guess I didn't realize how LWC was functioning. Our enterprise does not use the LWC in a manual sense - we simply leave the person a VM which triggers the lamp. That being the case, I thought it would be a great idea to configure the additional ports on the Octel to have the capability to activate MW lamps.

After realizing that the same extension had to cancel the LWC's it created, I quickly removed the additional ports capability to LWC when a new message arrived - since it would not likely be the same extension to cancel the LWC.

Thanks for the info.

Ah, yes. I see what you did now.

Just make your own set a global message retrieval station, and you can easily clean out those messages when you hear any complaints.
