Hi all, we are running a 3 server Metaframe XPe farm. In the past few days we have been having problems at our LAN. Our clients can no longer be set to use the "Auto Detect network Protocol" in the ICA Client. This just seemed to have stopped, the servers are Win2K running SP4. Anyone seen this or heard of it? Any solutions other than to hard code the IP's?
Thanks

There are a few issues with Citrix running on SP4 (Citrix has some articles on things to do when you upgrade to SP4) ... did you recently upgrade to SP4 or has it been like that for a while?

Hi,

Have you altered your DNS settings on your internal servers? Do you still have the "ica" setting?

Cheers,
Carl.

Intruder we have recently upgraded to SP4 I will have to check Citrix web site and see what they have to say.

Carl no we hav enot altered our DNS settings on our internal servers, and what ICA setting are you talking about if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks

Hi,

If you add "ica" as a DNS entry, then add the IP address of one of your servers.

When a client uses the Auto Locate feature, Citrix calls DNS to resolve "ica". DNS tells Citrix the IP address of a Citrix server. The user then connects!

Hope this helps,
Carl.

Thanks Carl, however what type of Dns enty do I need to enter, will this help with WAN connections? I did find the problem locally and this is what I needed to do in order to use the auto detect again:
Log on to the Citrix Management Console with read/write access.

Right-click the farm name at the top of the screen.

Click the MetaFrame Settings tab shown in Figure 12.3.

Put a check next to Data Collectors Respond to ICA Client Broadcast Messages.

Click OK and close the CMC.

So with the DNS entry can I set Wan users to auto detect as well? and once again what type of entry do I need to put in place, details would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

In your Forward Facing Zone, highlight your FQDN and then add a new record. Call it "ica" and point it to one of your servers, I've chosen my Data Collector. I'd suggest doing this on all your Remote DNS servers as well, not sure if it will replicate automatically or not!

Hope this helps,
Carl.

What type of new record, when I go into my FQDN and try to add a new record all I get is other new record and list of other records which one should I be selecting? i.e AFS Database, Alias, host.
Thanks

Hi,

New Host. Which is actually an A Record.

Cheers,
Carl.
