We have an IP406 and 5410 handsets. Our operators have headsets and we would like to play music until a call comes through.

Does anyone know how this can be set-up?

Thanks.

lol!

*34 will play the system music on hold, so you could hook up an external source and they can dial *34 to listen to it.

or get them all an ipod

It will cost you a call appearance !
I should say do not do this
Let them buy a little radio
It is a pbx and not a radio

Thanks guys. I don't want to give them another source as it means switching from the headsets on the phones to ipod headsets. I would just want a call to interupt the music.

I am familiar with *34 but is there a way of not letting this be heard as the hold music. I don't want to get into all sorts of performing rights issues, I only want the music to be heard internally not for external clients.

Thanks,

On 4.2 you get four sources of music on hold, if you use an internal wav file for the people calling in, you can use the external music source for internal only.

Okay. We need to take a look at the upgrade path.

Thanks,

Let them use a mono headset in the left ear and a mono MP3 player in the right ear....:p

These operators must have the management wrapped around their little fingers.

4.2 supports only EITHER the wav files (3 different ones) OR the external source not both simultaneously so don't upgrade to get that working it won't do it.

okay thanks. Is there any way of using the music on hold feature but switching it off for incoming callers?

not on this phone system because *34 will bring you to whatever source is playing for the incoming callers as well

Westi, no it doesn't...I have three wav files loaded and use the external MOH.

Peril, what I suggested does work, I tried it. You need to set the system MOH source as the External source and the alternatives can be wav files, set all incoming call and huntgroups to use the Wav file. (you can get the "beep beep" as a wav file by the way)

in that case I will go back to the people from avaya at the 4.2 seminar and tell them that they are wrong. They told us you can either use the external MoH or the three internal wave files.
Thanks for the clarification as I have not yet played around with the MoH.
Star for you.
