I have an Option 11c, and want to put some music on hold, through my previous posts, I've found out this is possible, but was wondering about some technical specs: Here is what my system says:

What does this tell you? It looks like I've already got the TN for it?

DES MUSIC
TN 007 0 00 07
TYPE MUS
CUST 0
XTRK XUT
TIMP 600
BIMP 600
RTMB 10 1
CFLP 30
DATE NO DATE

So I'm assuming I can punch down to that TN and it probably should work?

My question is this, let's say I want to hook up a MP3 player to it. From what I understand I just want to take the wires that are coming out of it, (headphones for instance) cut off the headphone part, and punch down the wires? Or do I need to take those wires, and join them with smaller wires to punch directly down to the PBX?

Thanks,

-Bill

the physical connection depends on the size of the wires, anything smaller then 21 gauge will not hold a good connection on the punchdown.. i usually use a screw down to connect the headphone (26 gauge) to a jumper, then punch down the jumper.. and yes you have a mus route and trunk built.. two other things to check, one is ld 21 prt cdr, the other is ld 21 prt rdb, all the routes need mus yes and rt 10 at the next prompt.. the mus in the cdb determines if you have music internal, the mus prompt on the route determines if you have music on an external route.. yes you can have unique music int to ext as well as local to long distance... only once have i been asked to put decent music internal and normal elevator music on the trunks

You need to actually think about three connections.
Most Headphones have a Sheild that also needs to be connected.

Connect the shield and 1 wire to one side of a biuscut jack, and the other connection to the other side, The you have screw terminals to connect regular jumper wire to.

Punch those down to the TN Block.

if your music route has a targ of 1 do and change in 16, chg rdb and at the targ x1, that can cause a block. default for sets and routes are both 1, a natural block.. once you do that you should be able to dial the acod, (ld 21 prt rdb) and hear your music.. i recogmend that before turning it on system wide..

When you say a screw down to a jumper, any good pictures or examples of this? I just want to make sure I don't blow anything up.

-Thanks as usual

Where would I find a biscuit jack?

Biscuit Jack is a term used to describe an old style wall mount jack with screw down connectors. You can find them at any electronics store, or a home depot or lowes type store.

Thanks

Ok, that's what I thought, so just bring those wires into that, screw them down, and also bring the wires two wires from my pbx on to the same ones? Is there a diff between pos and neg?

no, it's a low voltage dn at an audible rate.. you can't turn it over.. because your using port 7, that will be black.green green/black pair (13) cot cards are wired two pair per trunk..

So are you saying it doesn't matter where I connect them? I'm looking at one and I see

Red
Black
Green
Yellow

How would I come into that with the wire from the music source, and out to the pbx with the smaller wires? (As in which do I put together)

John thanks as always, sorry if I seem a little slow about all this!

use either pair, green red is standard, and punch the othe end done on the analog trunk tn..

Is there a difference on the trunk? As in which is positive and negative?
