Multithreaded File copying using the api, is it possible?

I am in the middle of a project that involves the transfer of a large number of files. I would like to know if it is possible in vb to copy these files using five or six threads to speed up the file copying? Would I have to use an activex exe or would some api's suffice. I guess what I am looking for is something similar to what windows does when it copies multiple files simultaneously.
