Hello,
I have two servers, seperate computers, what I want to do is run IIS on both machines on the same router, and same IP, serving the same websites, so that if one of them were to go down, let's say for maintenance, then the other one would take over. I cannot seem to figure out how to go about this... Do you know?

Thanks for your input...

If you have Win2k Advanced Server you can use clustering. Other than that there are load sharing switches (which also do fail over)

Chris.

Thanks chris,

I am using Microsoft Server 2003, I attempted to use the Network Balancing thing on there but it totally freaked out and really messed things up. Is there any third-party software out there that will do this?

Thanks,

LF

Network balancing is not the same as clustering. Use the built in clustering capability of Windows 2003 Server as it will do what you need.

What kind of network switch do you have. You may be able to do it at the network switch, which can be nice as it doesn't add any additional load to the servers.

Mr. Denny,

My Switch is nothing special. It is a Consumer-grade El Cheapo Network Everywhere NWR11B. I don't think it has such a function; could be wrong though.

I apparently do not have the right setup for this whole cluster thing to work. I do not have a Domain as it applies to active directory, nor do I have a DNS server or Static IP address. I am not sure if any, or all, of these things are really needed, but I can't get past the wizard that sets up the cluster. It is really not *that* imperative that I setup a cluster, I just thought it would be nice to be able to take one server down whilst keeping one abreast. I did find some third-party software that claims it will cluster servers together, but I have not tried it yet. Thank you all for your replies...
