We currently have a LINKSYS Model BEFSR81 router which is connected to a computer used for teaching and to a remote switch serving computers in the front office. I want to connect additional computers to the available six ports on the router. Can I do that? How? Our internet connection is through Comcast Cable

Yes, just cascade some tradtional switches (not routers). Depending on the devices, you might need to use an uplink port instead of a regular port (if 1 device does auto-crossover, you won't need to worry about this).

Wait, I think I read that wrong.........

You have 6 available ports on the existing router? If so, without adding any switches, you can add up to 6 more pc's.
