ok I have a laptop and an extra LCD.. Sometimes I set up multiple monitors so I can drag certain things to the other screen. When I unhook the other monitor if I have to take my laptop on site I disable Multiple Monitors

However I find somethings I open on my now single monitor disappear from my single screen. I can see that they are open but they are looking for my 2nd screen so i cant access them.

Is there a way to completely reset the single monitor after you turn off multiple

That is one of the problems of multiple monitors. Some applications remember where they last were and will open themselves there even though that part of the screen doesn't exist. You will also get the problem if you run your laptop on a 1600x1200 external monitor when the laptop display is only 800x600.

One possible solution is to put your laptop into panning mode to get at the rogue apps. Not all laptops can handle this.

Go to Display Properties/Settings
Option1: see if you can set the resolution to double the screen width.
Option2: click Advanced/Monitor. Uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Select one that is double the screen width and see if it works

Another solution is to right click on the app in the task bar and select Move. Then use the right arrow keys to bring it to the left. There is a problem with this if the app does not show on the task bar.

There may be slicker methods of doing this but I haven't found any to date.
