I have a 7206 with three different providers coming in to it. Each provider is a 3Mbps connection. Our LAN is comprised of some very high end customers with web sites and some very low $9/month sites as well.

What happens is one of the $9/month web sites will experience a DoS or something and it ends up taking the whole network down. The router bogs down trying to handle the load.

How can I protect my high end customers? Would I be better off running three separate edge routers and then use one for distribution. Logic in that is if one particular provider fills up with the DoS, the others stay running?

I just went through this same thing. Our DS-3 was almost shutdown because teh upstream 12000 was maxed out from a DDOS. We are now bringing in 2 seperate circuits from seperate providers and seperate CPE's.

Its the new battle ground.
