This may sound like as strange question to have 2 IMS's but here's the situation:

I am migrating users from one outdated Exchange5.5 server to a more updated box still at Ex5.5. The issue is I don't want to inturrupt the IMS service or at least minimize the down time.

Are there any issues with having two IMS's running at the same time in the same site for a short time while I adjust my firewall to point to the new server. I would then stop just about every service on the old server.

Thanks, Mantislee

This should work fine. On the new one, I would give it an address space of *.* (assuming the original is *). This will then be the prefered route outbound. Once you get DNS pointing to the new server (or change its ip address to match the old one), your inbound will go there too. If you're planning to keep the old server around, you can then remove its address space completely, and put it back if you ever need that IMS again (not that it's a big deal to simply reinstall the IMS).
