We have a machine with a problem clicking certain Buttons on Web pages in IE6 causes multiple duplicate explorer windows to open. These are duplicates of the page being used.

It happens most when (my boss clicks) the sign-on button in ebay, making it impossible to sign on. as the sign on page is re-displayed.

I have eliminated Mal ware as a cause, and believe it may be a windows or IE problem.
The effect is the same if using mouse or keyboard.
and sometimes multiple Windows Explorer windows may open (I haven't been able to duplicate this)

Does this happen under all user profiles? We had this once and I was convinced it was malware/spyware but as soon as I wiped the profile and started afresh, the problem went away.

It goes without saying but make sure you back up the current profile first. You should then be able to get away with copying just the desktop, favorites and my documents folders back in to the fresh user profile.

Regards,

Have a look at the paramaters in: Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab, (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol, Advanced button, Open parameter, Edit button. Make sure that Application to perform action is exactly:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

smah:
Yes the Hypertext transfer and secure hypertext transfer items do seem to point to the correct places.

There is only one user profile on this machine at present, I will try creating another.
