multiple default gateways

Hello,
Is it possible to have 2 default gateways on a switch?
We have 2 seperate ISP's and I would ideally like to set a rule where the gateway is always ISP #1 unless it is not available and then it would use ISP #2.

something like:
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.255.1 1(weight of 1)
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.255.2 2(weight of 2)

Is this possible? if not is there another direction to research?
 
You can do this and the router will accept those commands. Thing to bear in mind however that due to the nature of static routes (i.e. they are not aware of network failures), the primary route to ISP #1 will always be used even if ISP #1 is not available.

There are several ways to mitigate this but they are quite a bit more complicated than static routing inc:

1. A dynamic routing protocol (like BGP).

2. If you plan to use a pair of routers on the LAN side, consider HSRP or GLBP with tracking to monitor the WAN.


3. Use reliable static routing.
