multiple copies of emails

i have a user that sent an email to multiple people, a few of these people (3 out of about 20) recieved 4 copies of it. my thought is that it is one the recievers end that is the problem, or all the people would have recieved 4 copies. i guess i am just wanting someone to agree with me on this..

any other thoughts on the matter would be great

A sending mail rule could do this. Other than that possibility, I agree - reciever's problem (of which there are a number of possibilities).
