Hi
If I use the multiple columns how can I set the detail height using section expert layout tab as this is always greyed out

Thanks

Yes but in the tab the detail height is greyed out

You should be able to manually change the height of the detail section(s).

But it is greyed out even if I create a new report with nothing in it. What do I have to do to enable it - is there a setting anywhere?

Thanks

Why not just go into design mode and manually change the detail height? I'm not sure I've ever seen detail height enabled in the multiple columns layout tab.

Thats fine but I need precision on the detail area size and thought that this location would be ideal

You can use format->size and position to resize your detail fields, and then drag the section to nest up against the details. Also, you should go to file->options->grid size: 0.011 in order to maximize control over field size. Using a magnified view, you can get pretty good control over dimensions this way.
