Hello,

I have a database on a server, containing the tables, and i have a database with the query's/forms/etc. local on the workstations. The last database has linked tables to the one on the server.

The problem i encountered is that if somebody is using the database, other persons cannot read data from the shared database. The message is that the database is allready in use.

The shared database is only for looking up data.

what is wrong?
what is the solution?

Thanks in advance,

Joran

It sounds as if the database on the server is being opened in exclusive mode. Maybe your software installers are installing Access with the default open mode set to Exclusive. Check Tools>Options, on the Advanced tab, Default Open Mode. If it's set to Exclusive, then when that copy of Access opens a table, the database will be locked and other users won't be able to get in. Rick Sprague

If it is Access 2000, sounds like other people are having the same problem. Check out Nelli's post on 3/17/01.
