How come I can only use Windows Media Player in playing multimedia files in Windows XP? I cannot use Quicktime, Real Player, Winamp, etc. And also, Flash Player doesn't work! I mean, the animation works but there's no sound! What's wrong with my system? Is there anyone out there with similar problem or has a solution?

Use the File Types tab to select the file types (formats) Windows Media Player plays. Windows Media Player will attempt to be the default player for the selected file types. If you want to make another player the default player for a specific file type, clear the check box in the File types list.

To access the File Types tab
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click File Types.

bluerat888,

Good advise from Linney!
You can do this too:

1.)Click to highlight, a file whose default handler you'd like to change, such as an "AVI", or "MPG" file.
2.) Hold the "Shift" key, and right click the file.
3.) Choose "Open With", and select the player you'd like from the available list, or browse to another one.
4.) Don't forget to check the: "Always use..." check box, so that this new player will always open this type of file when it's double-clicked.

I have a similar problem with Media Player. However I have no problem getting Quicktime, Real etc to work (no association problems)
There is no audio playback on my system only when using Media Player Doesn't matter what format AVI (video fine), MP3, WMA, WAV, MID, etc. Microsoft Knowledge Base has been no help. I felt I was the only one with this problem. I am running XP Pro on an ECS K75SA motherboard and AMD XP1800+ using onboard sound. I have reinstalled Media player, but no difference.
