Hi,
Some helpful soul who shall remain nameless installed some Seagate utilities on my NT laptop which overwrote msvcrt.dll with an older version. Result is that several utilities I use will no longer load, or for that matter uninstall. When I try to copy the dll from another machine I can't do it because the file is in use by windows. Any ideas? I am trying to hunt down a version of MS Libraries update, but so far no luck, and the windowsupdate site offers no way for me to get a new copy of the dll installed.

Thanks,
John

Never mind... I was able to install MDAC 2.6 which loaded the newest versions of the affected dll's

Is this a Win2000 machine? Seagate Crystal Reports?
If so - make sure the install was ran with an administrator logged on. (if using 95,98,Me - not applicable)
Also, make sure that no programs are running, and their services are stopped in Control Panel.

Let me know if this works..

It is NT 4.0 Workstation. I shut down EVERYTHING, includian all services and any devices that I could axe without killing the machine. Every time I tried to overwrite the dll it came back as being in use by Windows. I know there is a utility out there that would let me reinstall it, but fortunately I needed to move up to MDAC 2.6 anyhow and that restored the dll.

What we installed were Seagate Info 7 Client and Seagate Analysis Client. I am the admin on this box so that was not an issue. Quite strange that a piece of software as wide-spread as Segate's stuff would do this.
