Good day,

I'm getting a hard time trying to deploy the
Office XP MSI/MST over the Network.

For some users, the install just start well, but for some
other nothing happend!

I've double-checked the options and everything seems to
be ok in the configuration of the policies.

Anyone else got this trouble ?

I put the package to "Published" because I want a
complete install of office for all the users.

Also I linked it to the users, not the computer.

What else could Ive forgot ?

Thanks in advance.

JS.

I use "assigned" in the Computer Configuration set of a GPO that's attached to an OU. I control which Computers get the software installed by setting the permissions in the GPO to a Security Group that contains the computers I want the software installed to.

The trick with mine is that the computer security group must have access to the share that the MSI & setup files are on.

I've done a bunch of these so if you need more help please repost.

I prefer using this method so I know which workstations have a specific Office Installation, and it's fully installed before any user logs on.

Fisrt of all thanks for your help, its really apreciated.

I did like you said, but the package isnt deploying. I took a look a the Event viewer, and I got this Error message, From the Application Log.

------------------------------
Type: Warning.
Source: Application management.
Event: 108.

Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. The error was : The group policy framework should call the extension in the synchronous foreground policy refresh.
-------------------------------

Any ideas ?
Help would be great! Thx again ...

This usually means that you need to reboot before the changes will take effect. I.e you assign a GPO to a set of computers, reboot one and no software is installed, but if you reboot a second time the install runs fine. It all depends how often the policies are updated.

Thanks again for the reply,

I do have rebooted (many times) and stuill no deployement.

But I have this thing on my Event Viewer.
------------------------------
Type: Information.
Source: Application management.
Event: 308.

Changes to software installation settings were applied successfully.
------------------------------
But nothing happened ...

lol

Thansk again, each reply is apprecited.

I had the same problem with installing packages. It said it worked fine but nothing was their. I downloaded Microsoft's Group Policy Management software. When I added software in the User Configuration there is a new checkbox under deployment "Install this application at logon" This solved the problem.

The only problem I have with this setting is that because we remove the roaming profile from the computer when they log off it causes the software to install everytime they log on. Still looking for a solution to that.

I hope this helps,

Kenny
