MSSQL 7 default value formula

i want to assign a formula to the default value for a column so that it defaults to the (MAX() + 1) value of all records in that column

in sql server 2000, there is a "formula" field for columns in design view, but this seems to be missing in sql server 7. is there a way to set this in sql server 7?
