MSGINA.DLL failed to load

I am getting this message on bootup: "The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL or restore the original DLL.

I also get the same message in safe mode. So far, I have tried:

chkdsk /p and chkdsk /r from recovery mode
Tried to load known good configuration - no luck

Based on some other forums, I replaced the following files (since I did not have a recovery disk or good xp disk, I found them on a working xp computer in \windows\system32 directory):

winlogon.exe
msgina.dll
shell32.dll
shlwapi.dll

I renamed the originals so I can get them back if I need to.

So far, nothing has worked.

Anyone have any ideas, other than reloading windows. I'm running a dell inspiron 5100 - I believe it is xp home.

Well, "Last Known Good Configuration" didn't work, but you may still want to read this article through to understand what might have happened:

At this point, you may need to try a repair. Boot from XP's CD and follow these directions:

In your Registry you may have reference to an incorrect GINA instead of the default msgina.dll from Microsoft. The GINA that a particular system uses is configured on a system-wide basis in the following registry location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVerson\WinLogon. A string value called “GinaDLL” contains the name of the GINA file that the system should use. You may need to check and correct that if it is the problem.

The reference to the "digitalwebcast" may be a solution in itself. If not the other things mentioned, combined with this following may be of help.

Alternatively there is always this, or even a clean install.

Repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
