Hey all,

I am running 3 Windows 2003 boxes (non clustered) and I have an MSDTC problem. I performed some troubleshooting and found that when using DTCTester, the test connection will suceed when DTCTester is run on the sql server box, but it will not connect from the other two machines. I receive:

Error:
SQLSTATE=25S12,Native error=-2147168219,msg='[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Distributed transaction error'
Error:
SQLSTATE=24000,Native error=0,msg=[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid cursor state

I have researched in the MS kb and cannot find a fix to this problem. These are the exact examples that MS gives on the "How to use DTCTester Tool" site as an Example of Error that Occurs When the DTCTester Fails:

I am hoping I do not have to reinstall SQL server as I have a good deal of Documentum software installed.

Thank you.

Verify that your DNS is setup correctly.

DNS Settings:

Configure all server NICs to only list local DCs running DNS, no ISP DNS gets configured on the NIC TCP/IP properties.

In DHCP, set the DNS scope option to only provide the IP of your local DNS server

For any statically configured IPs, make sure the DNS only lists local DNS servers and not ISP DNS.

In the DNS snap-in on the forwarders tab enter your ISP DNS.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
