Hello,

I am getting this error when trying to connect to the MSDE through Crystal - or using Query Analyzer or ODBC DSN, for that matter:

SQL Server Error: 11
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]General Network Error

It also says "ConnectionOpen" "PreHandshakeLogin"

This is Crystal 9 Enterprise Standard, running on Win2k3 Standard. MDAC is 2.8 The MSDE that came with CE9 appears to be the SQL Server 7 version.

Everything was fine until yesterday - we had been in production for a couple years. Now the Crystal APS will not run, and we are down.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Check the 2003 firewall.

If there are no firewall problems try restarting the MSDE service.

These are on the same machine, with no firewall on the network connection. I did try restarting both MSDE and the server itself, to no avail.

I did read that MSDE from SQL 7 is not supported on 2003 server, so maybe it finally got around to breaking, although it worked fine for a long time.

Can you upgrade from MSDE (SQL Server 7 vintage) to MSDE 2000? I wonder if the Crystal Enterprise could handle that - since that was what installed MSDE in the first place.

Thanks in advance,

Jason
