I'm working on an application to be distributed on cd that uses msde. We're in the process of testing msde on a win98 machine, and I can't seem to get it installed. I can get the 1.0 version installed, but we need to use 2000. The installation hangs when it gets to the very end. No errors, nothing. I've been trying to install it on a vinalla install of win98. So far, I've figured out that IE 5.0 is required for msde, but that's it. I got it running once by installing office2000, but I can't seem to get it up again, even when I repeat the same steps.
Microsoft claims that msde 2000 should work fine on win98 (they don't even say that IE 5 is required...), but they're obviously full of it.
Does anyone have any experience with this (or know someone who does)? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Figured it out. Here's the solution, in case anyone else is trying to install msde on win98 (not SE). 'Client for Microsoft Networks' must be set as the primary logon in the network settings for the install to complete properly. Once the installation is done, you can change the primary logon to whatever you want.
