Hi all,

I'm trying to install MSDE on XP Pro. When clicking on the install within Visual Studio, the install process happens, but there is no confirmation after the procees ends.

The sqlmgr.exe is running in the task bar, but when attempting to connect to the server in the server explorer in Visual Studio, there is no server, no nothing.

Is there something that I'm missing?

Thanks very much for replying,

The server manager indicates the server is running (with the green play arrow lit).

I've not used Visual Studio so I'm not familiar with its server explorer.

What name are you using for the server? (local) or the PC name should work.

Have you tried setting up the server and network library in the Client Network Utility? (C:\windows\system\cliconfg.exe) Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

I have not set up the server and network library in the Client Network Utility. I'll give your suggestion a try a bit later and let you know what happens with it. (Small emergency here)

Thanks for helping me out on what is turning into frustrating ordeal.

Now that I'm here at the Client Config, I'm not sure what I need to do or what you're suggesting.

I tried using the Access usizing wizard to confirm that I could at least upsize/add a database to the server, but I've got nothing.

I'm not sure what to do other than reinstall again?

Thanks

Just a followup for this:

I was able to get MSDE installed after reinstalling VS.NET and disabling every process will doing so.

Thanks for the help tlbroadbent, appriciate your efforts
