I need to read and write through a serial port. From my readings it seems that I need to use the mscomm1 commands. I have visual basic version 6, and after running a sample 'scan program' i get the following message in a text file :
Class MSCommLib.MSComm of control MSComm1 was not a loaded control class.

Do I need to purchase the .net version to get this control ?

your help much appreciated

No, you should have the MSComm control.

Go to "Project", Then Select "Components". You'll see a long list of items. Check the box next to "Microsoft Comm Control".

When you do that, you'll have a telephone icon on the toolbar.

What version of VB do you have? I believe that MSComm control is not in the Learning edition of VB6
