Hello,
I am trying to set a default location for the word documents. I define the default documents location to C: drive, but it changes to 'My documents' when a different user logs on.
The document location is setup using Tools->Options->File Locations-> Documents. I am using MS Word 2000 on Windows 2000 platform.
Is it possible to save the settings for document location, so that it does not change every time a new user logs on?

Thanks for your help,
Rooshi

No. Word defaults to c:\documentd and settings\UserName\my documents as the File Location / Documents setting. The critical point being is that it is unique to to every specific user. You can change this of course.

If you change the File Location / Documents (in Word) to a different folder it only applies to the current logged user. Note also that if you do this in Word, it does NOT change the target location of My Documents, either on the desktop, or any other application that uses My Documents.

Possible solutions

1. redirect all the users' My Documents folder (the desktop link) to another specific folder, that you define. result:= all files for all users default as saving (and opening) to that folder, ToAchieve:= visit to every user to redirect target properties of my documents; or perhaps a W2K scripting method that can do this, or a policy.

2. redirect all the users' Word File Location / Documents to the folder you want. result:= all Word files Open/Save from the folder; My Documents remains the same for all other apps and Windows itself,

To Achieve:=
a) visit to every user and change File Locations

b) if normal.dot is pulled from a server (i.e. everyone uses the same normal.dot) then change that one.

b)write a simple macro to another Word file contains instructons to reset the local Documents Location. Have it run esssentially as a batchfile - launched by a batchfile, does its job amd closes itself. Have that as part of each users login procedures.

Hope this helps.
